Day 309- saving and sewing adventures

So everyone knows I love a challenge......and games.....I mostly love figuring out how to do something complicating and mastering it....
So when Eric and I got married last June I decided to start couponing. And not just a coupon here a coupon there like our mothers used to....I wanted to seriously coupon.....I wanted to save more money then I spent. That was my goal by the end of our first year of marriage. I wanted to save more on our groceries then I spent. This proved to be a much more daunting task then I had first anticipated.....It was a bit/and still is a bit more complicating then I had first thought. But I am learning.
I only shop at Publix. Call me bias but I hate WalMart, and the deals at WinnDixie are just not as good. The biggest thing I have found is that a lot of what is on sale, we don't use/eat.....but I have learned if I can get it for free, then I can donate it to my church's food bank, which to be honest I had never really thought of till someone brought it up. I use southernsavers.com. She links the sales and tells you were to find the coupons. It is also hard sometimes because different areas offer different coupons. So basically you can have something on sale, but your area may not have the coupon. =( The most I have save grocery shopping is $30 on a $100 trip. Not too bad. But CVS, I have gotten better every time I go.
I am sorry this picture is not big enough. But just to give you an idea of what I got 4 Suave body wash, 1 Suave conditioner, 1 Pantine shampoo/conditioner, 1 Suave deodorant, Crest toothpaste, 2 Reach toothbrushes, Reach floss, Dawn dish soap, 5ct Allegra, 8ct Bounty paper towels, and a case of water ( not pictured) worth 42 for 22.....so I got half off basically. My second trip this evening proved to be even better....
My first purchase was
Pledge multi surface x2- @$3 each
Pledge Lemon-@ $3
Pledge Fabric Sweeper- @$3
I had (3) $1 coupons
TOTAL= 9.84
Got Back =$4
Second Purchase.................
(2) Palmolive Dish Soap- @.88 each with (2) .50 coupon = .38c each
Skintimate Shave Gel- @3.49 with .55c coupon
(2) Dove Deodorant- @3.50 each w/ (2) .75c= 2.75each
(2) Dove Mens Body wash@$5 each w/ (2) $1 c = 4.00 each
(2) Clean & Clear Body wash- @ $2.99 each with (1) BOGO and (1) $2 coupon = .99c for both
- $4.00 CVS buck
-$4.00 off of $20 CVS from coupon center
TOTAL= $11.89
Got Back= 7.50 ECB
GRAND TOTAL=21.73
with 7.50 left over---so technically I only spent $14.23!!!
It was all worth around $38 and I saved around $17
Not too bad huh??

Something else I have been learning to do lately is sew. Now this one I have learned completely on my own. I love changing things out around the house...throw pillows, curtains, place mats, towels.....found out that can become really expensive. So I decided to learn to make them myself. I started out with a baby bib....dont ask me why.....

I made these for a girl at work who just had a little girl....It took three tries to get it right but they are pretty darn cute aren't they!!

Then I wanted some new spring place mats for our table....

I am not going to lie.....the first one was a bit rough...I went back to buy more fabric to make another and they didn't have anymore, but I love the fabric so much I just kept the messed up one.

This is one I made for my friend. Making two with the green and two with yellow to match.....

So my next thing to tackle is a purse....I will let you know how that goes at a later time.
We are currently looking for houses. Its exciting and nerve racking at the same time. Eric and I are so picky and head strong about certain things so it makes it even harder to find something that meets our needs now and will meet our needs 10years from now. Please pray that we can find a place that is perfect for us, but wont cause us to eat beanie weenies for the rest of our lives =) I am personally praying for a pool!!.  Have a great Tuesday!
